Chris A. Strohbeck
Preaching Ministry Intern
I grew up in Carlinville, IL (don’t worry, nobody else has heard of it either). I like to play soccer, go camping, take road trips, or basically anything that can be considered an adventure. I am at FCC as a student intern this spring. I attend Lincoln Christian University, where I am majoring in preaching and will be graduating in May. I am here to get to know you, serve you, and seek the Lord alongside you. I am blessed to be able to spend this time with you here at FCC, and I look forward to seeing the ways God will work here.

David was arguably the greatest king in the history of the nation of Israel. He followed after the Lord and submitted his own will to God's. As a result, he was called a man after God's own heart. Obviously it's a great thing to be known as a man after God's own heart, but this leads us to some questions. What made David such a man? Was he born after God's own heart, or did he earn the title somehow? Are we able to also be called men and women after God's own heart today? And if so, how? These are all important questions to ask, and in seeking answers we will grow closer to God.
David was human, just like the rest of us. He was not born at a special status, but he followed God and was called a man after God's own heart as a result of his consistent relationship with God. This means that, being human just like David, we are capable of following his example and earning the same description. The only thing left, then, is to determine exactly what it means to be after God's heart.
The key here is to understanding God's heart, and He has made that very clear to us. God loves. Every action He has performed in history has been based on His love, whether it is for His world or, more importantly, for His people. God loves us and desires for perfect relationships to exist, just as He exists as a perfect relationship within the Trinity. The best way to live as men and women after God's own heart is to love, just as God loves. We are to love God and to love others, and to seek reconciled relationships with everyone. This will take shape in a huge variety of ways, but in the end, it all comes down to that one thing. Live after God's own heart: love just as God loves.
