What Does GACDC Do?

The mission of the Greater Ashburn Community Development Corporation is to support the outreach ministry of First Christian Church of Chicago by fostering a healthy community in the greater Ashburn neighborhood of Chicago by facilitating educational, relational, social, vocational, and moral advancement.

Healthy communities are made up of healthy, whole people. We seek to respond to the most pressing and unmet needs of our community in a wholistic way.

ANGEL FOOD

Angel Food is a monthly food distribution ministry that occurs one Saturday per month. Participants can purchase high quality food at a tremendously discounted rate through the Angel Food Ministries site, and pick-up their order at GACDC/First Christian Church of Chicago. ANGEL TREE

Angel Tree ministry is a program, in partnership with Prison Fellowship, that shares the love of Christ with children whose parents are incarcerated. By buying Christmas gifts for these children, we remind them of God's love and the love of their parent.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE

ESL meaning teaching non-English people to read and speak the English language. ESL has been provided for the Ashburn community at First Christian Church of Chicago and at Lionel Hampton Fine & Performing Arts School.

HARVEST FEST

Harvest Fest is an annual Halloween Alternative, held on the evening of October 31, that provides the children of the Ashburn neighborhood a safe alternative to trick-or-treating. Children can play games, ride ponies, enjoy their candy, and much more. Harvest Fest is held on the campus of First Christian Church of Chicago.

VITA

VITA stands for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. Hosted each February through April, VITA volunteers help nearly one hundred families claim close to $100,000 on the income tax returns. This assistance is a free service to families with an income under $55,000.
